Altuzarra Fall ’15 Ghianda Knot and Bullrope Hobo Bags

Calling all modern boho muses! Along with all you classic Snobs who have always harbored a bohemian style fantasy. With his first – and impressively original – foray into bags, Joseph Altuzarra is redefining a current and effortless breed of chic.

Forget the hippie-dipped hobo. For his Fall ’15 collection, he has revived and reinvigorated the hobo (a bag that is often too slouchy to keep from feeling sloppy or too forced into sternness to feel easy) in a way I didn’t see coming. Actually, in three ways!

With the right degree of structure and the right balance of freewheeling elements like knots and tassels, the Ghianda is the kind of bag that smoothly floats from the off-day to office, from afternoon cocktail meet-up to music festival (lest there be mud!), and far beyond. I love the Knot style, with its high-texture weave sitting front and center. But I especially appreciate the Bullrope, finished with naturalistic tassels designed to swing from the sides of the bag as you move. And I probably don’t have to tell you I’m a little partial to it in awesome wine-colored croc. Only select styles are available at Barneys New York so far (no croc or studs yet!), but they’re already selling out fast. And that’s, in part, the magic of Altuzarra’s magic touch.

The Ghianda Knot small hobo, $2,295, in taupeicon and Knot large hobo, $2,695, in blackicon and caramelicon. The Ghianda Bullrope small hobo, $2,895, in blackicon and navyicon, and Bullrope large hobo, $3,295, in taupeicon. All Altuzarra bags at Barneys New Yorkicon.
